Democracy is so damaged

I suspect far less are watching this trial, as did the first time. Which is a bit difficult to understand considering that the charges and guilt are far more consequential and undeniable. The fact that sworn defenders of the constitution, the chief lawmakers and enforcers in our nation... Are so unwilling to be impartial... And could even consider looking the other way on such blatant and disastrous dereliction...such dastardly self serving betrayal.. All for sake of political loyalty to party over country... Is truly shattering to our democracy. It's only made possible by our numbness to heavily compounded madness.
The consequence of conviction is not a lifetime in jail, it's not charges of treason punishable by death...it's not even removal from a held office. It is merely disqualification...for someone that so obviously disqualified himself with his words and actions. Yet... That is too steep a cost for 80% or more of republican senators to do the only conscionable thing? That is complete and utter madness.... And is as thoroughly dismaying as it is infuriating. For sake of our entire republic... I continue to hope that enough of this jury can see the light, and do the only reasonable thing here. Knowing how numb so many have become... I suspect that will not be the case, and we will all have to swallow a humiliating, and destructively jagged pill. Such an action would ensure that integrity is a concept of the past, and justice is constricted by convenience and political loyalty.
